Faith that Moves Mountains

Reading: Matthew 17:14-21, Hebrews 11:1-6

And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”

17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

20 Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:14-21)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:1-6)

Devotional: Jesus teaches that faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. This metaphor illustrates the immense power of even the tiniest amount of genuine faith. Reflect on areas in your life where you feel powerless or overwhelmed. Are you trusting in your own strength or in God's infinite power? Remember, faith is not about the absence of doubt, but about trusting God despite our doubts.

Today, identify one "mountain" in your life and commit it to God in prayer, believing that He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Let this exercise strengthen your faith and deepen your reliance on God's power.
