Words That Build
Reading: Ephesians 4:29; Proverbs 18:21
Devotional: Your words carry creative power—they build up or tear down. Paul's standard is high: let no corrupt communication proceed from your mouth. "Corrupt" means rotten, decayed, worthless—speech that spoils rather than nourishes. Not all corrupt speech is profane; some words are simply empty, critical, or destructive. The positive command is equally important: speak what edifies according to the need of the moment, ministering grace to hearers. Before speaking, pause and ask: Will this build up? Does this meet a real need? Will this give grace? Your words should leave people stronger, encouraged, and closer to Christ.
Today, intentionally speak life. Offer a word of encouragement, express genuine appreciation, or speak truth that heals rather than harms.
