The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

Apr 14, 2026    Bishop Calvin M. Hooper

Reading: Galatians 5:16-25

Devotional: Paul reveals an uncomfortable truth: "The flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another." Even genuine believers experience this internal conflict. The presence of struggle doesn't indicate absence of salvation—it proves something in you has been awakened to righteousness. Dead people don't war against sin; they're comfortable in it. Your battle reveals that God has changed you. The flesh may speak, but it no longer rules. You have a choice in who you yield to. Today, recognize that feeling the war doesn't mean you're losing it. Victory isn't found in denying the struggle but in choosing daily to walk by the Spirit rather than gratify the desires of the flesh.
