Expressing Love for God Through Worship
Expressing Love for God Through Worship
Reading:
Matthew 22:34-40
34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him: 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”
Luke 7:36-39
36 Now one of the Pharisees was requesting Him to eat with him, and He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 And there was a woman in the city who was a sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, 38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, and began kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this Man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner!”
Devotional:
Today we focus on how we express our love for God through worship. In Matthew, Jesus reminds us that loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind is the greatest commandment. The story of the woman with the alabaster jar in Luke shows us a powerful example of sacrificial worship.
Reflect on how you express your love for God. Is your worship heartfelt, or do you sometimes go through the motions? Consider ways you can engage your whole being - emotions, spirit, and intellect - in worship. Remember, worship isn't just about singing on Sundays; it's a lifestyle of expressing love and gratitude toward God daily. How can you make your everyday actions an act of worship?
Prayer: Lord, help me to love You with my whole being. May my life be a constant expression of worship to You.
