Moving Forward in Faith

Reading: Joshua 1:6-9, Hebrews 11:1-6

Joshua 1:6-9 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Hebrews 11:1-6 'Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.'

Devotional: God's command to the Israelites to "go forward" challenges us to act on our faith. There are times when God calls us to wait and times when He calls us to move. Discerning the difference requires a close relationship with Him and attentiveness to His guidance. Today's readings encourage us to be strong and courageous, remembering that faith often requires action. Reflect on areas in your life where God might be calling you to "go forward."

What steps of faith is He asking you to take? Remember, as Hebrews tells us, faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Ask God for the courage to take that next step, trusting in His presence and guidance.
