Abiding in the Source of Life
Reading: John 15:1-8; Colossians 3:1-17; Psalm 40:8
Devotional: Jesus says apart from Him we can do nothing. A branch does not produce fruit by effort alone; it bears fruit because it remains connected to the vine. All of the new life discussed this week flows from one source: union with the risen Christ. We do not live differently in order to become alive. We live differently because in Christ we have already been made alive. This is the distinction that separates gospel-driven obedience from exhausting religious performance. If spiritual life has grown dry, the answer is not to manufacture life. Return to the One who is Life. Return to prayer, the Word, worship, and honest confession. Life is found in Him.
Reflection Questions:
Are you currently abiding in Christ, or have you been trying to produce fruit while disconnected from the vine?
If your spiritual hunger has faded, what has quietly taken the place of time with God in your daily rhythm?
Practical Application: Set aside fifteen uninterrupted minutes today for prayer and Scripture with no agenda other than being present with God. If your heart has grown cold, bring that honestly before Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to awaken what has become dormant and to make the life of Christ increasingly visible in you.
